Little Sister

Monday, September 23, 2013
It's not easy being the little sister. Abigail tries so hard to keep up with Hannah all day long.  She's pretty much abandoned her naps in fear she'll miss out on something fun, despite the fact that she really should still be napping at her age. Oh well. But some days, around 4pm, she just can't keep her eyes open anymore and she falls asleep right where she is and in the middle of whatever she's doing. It is too cute.
Eating popcorn...with the hand still in the bowl.

Reading her book.

A close-up of the little reader.

Snacking. Notice all the crumbs on her chest. That's my girl.

Hannah's First Day of Pre-School

Thursday, September 12, 2013
She was so excited and had so much fun. When I picked her up, she said, "Mom, I'm so happy. I love school!"

There goes my baby.
She did not want to pose for pictures outside school. She wanted to get in there!

Notice another little someone with her backpack. She wanted to go to school too.
She said she played with the baby dolls and played on the playground outside. They sang the song "head, shoulders, knees and toes" and had show and tell. Hannah brought two little shells she found on Cape Cod for her show and tell. When I picked her up, her teacher said she did "awesome."

Poor Abby wanted to go to school too. After we had dropped Hannah off, Abby kept saying "school, school." She didn't want to leave Hannah's school.

All in all, a great first day!

Peach Picking

Friday, September 6, 2013
And raspberry and blackberry picking too.

Along with camping and our cliff walk, we visited Sweet Berry Farm during our recent jaunt to Rhode Island. If you remember, we went there back in June to pick strawberries and loved the farm so much we couldn't wait to go back.

This time we picked peaches, blackberries and raspberries. We picked a ton of peaches and have been enjoying them and giving a bunch away to neighbors and friends. I made this peach and creme fraiche pie recipe from Smitten Kitchen, which was delicious, and I plan to try her peach butter recipe too.

Like I said, we really love this farm. We may even go back this fall to pick apples and pumpkins. We are also planning a visit to Parlee Farms, which is right here in Massachusetts and looks amazing.

I love visiting farms with the kids and picking fruit because 1) I think it's fun; 2) I think it's important for kids to know where their food comes from and 3) I think it exposes kids (and adults too) to foods they might not otherwise try (like blackberries). So there's my little pitch for visiting a farm with your kids. Without further ado, the pictures.

Fun times were had by all.

Cliff Walk

Tuesday, September 3, 2013
We planned our camping trip to be as close to Newport, RI as we could manage. Newport is such a great town and we seem to have a wonderful time every time we visit, so we thought camping nearby would be the perfect excuse to go back.

We drove down to Newport Thursday morning and had lunch at this little clam shack that had the most amazing view. After lunch, we walked the Cliff Walk again. It's such an incredible view and the girls loved hiking about 3/4 of it. Then they broke down and were crying the rest of the way. Fun times.
Nice view, right? And the fried clams were so good! P.s. How cute is Abby in that hat?

Hannah wanted to run the whole way...until she didn't.
Rolling down the hill, a new favorite activity.
Happy hiker.

Sisterly love.
Her legs were "hurting" from all her running.
Me coming out of the porta-potty. Keepin' it real.

Camping 2013

Goodness, it's been a while since I've posted on the old blog and I know some of the relatives are itching for some pictures. So here you go.

We took the girls camping last week. It was really fun and they loved it (mostly). However, we made the mistake of not taking an air mattress (should have listened to you, Jacqui!). The ground was so hard, we felt like we were really roughing it.  By the time the sun came up Matthew and I were like "thank God. Let's get out of here." But we really did have fun and now we know, bring an air mattress next time.
Family picture in our tent.
The girls loved playing in the tent, until it was time to actually go to bed. Then they were like, "say what? you want us to sleep in this thing?"

They had a cool playground at the campground, which the girls loved.
Helping Daddy build a fire.

Eating s'mores was our favorite part of camping, hands down.

Making our dinner of sandwiches.

Abby loved getting dirty. You can't really tell in this picture, but she had dirt all over her face and that white sweatshirt was filthy.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience and we can't wait to do it again next summer. Until then, however, we will be enjoying our nice comfy bed.
